For a majority of the year, the leadership of SHoWLE, the president and Board of Directors, plan, develops, and hosts our various meetings and events. We try to hold at least one general meeting a month and the rest of the time we might schedule and host an event — either a meeting or social activity. This is where you come in.
In an effort to foster a community and to better meet the needs of the membership, SHoWLE offers members and friends of the group the opportunity to plan, develop, and host an event that is promoted by SHoWLE.
These events can be almost anything that interests you but there are some ground rules in order for it to be promoted by SHoWLE:
- It should have some connection to Humanism or our Humanist values based on the 10 Commitments.
- It should not be strictly political. SHoWLE has to be mindful of political events and discussions due to our tax exemption although having an event about the right to vote would be fine — for example.
- The event should be as inclusive as possible for gender, age, and mobility. If payment of a fee is required then make sure to note that upfront. Free is better.
- Event hosting is open to our members and friends of the group. Priority will be given to current members.
- While SHoWLE will promote an event, the host is entirely responsible for planning, developing, and hosting it. The host will find the venue and book it and afterward will let SHoWLE how many people attended.
If your event becomes popular, it might become a regular part of our group activities. Our Kid’s movie and free pizza event started as an idea from a member.
If you have a fully formed idea for an event and want it promoted then fill out the form below and we will get back to you. If you are not sure if your idea fits, lets us know about anyway on the form and we can discuss it.
