SHoWLE Board of Directors Interest Form

The Secular Humanists of Western Lake Erie is a democratic member run group based on a set of Bylaws. Those bylaws, and the state of Ohio, require we have a Board of Directors to handle the day-to-day operation of the group. This includes setting policy, programing for meetings and events, and maintaining the financial health of the group.

There is no previous experience needed to serve on the Board. The only requirement is you have to be a voting member — that is you have paid dues. We meet for no more than hour every other month or more often if needed, usually online using Zoom. And we do ask you to attend at least one meeting or event each month and make a donation or two if you can. (Donation of time or in-kind goods counts).

A Board of Directors shall conduct the business of the group between business meetings. The Board of Directors shall consist of up to seven members who must be SHoWLE voting members in good standing. The Board of Directors shall elect the officers of SHoWLE from among the Board.

The Board of Directors shall serve staggered two-year terms where four seats are up for election one year and three seats are up for election the next year.

In cases where there are less than three board members, the President shall appoint at least one and no more than the number needed to have the state minimum three board members total. The appointments will be confirmed at a later special members meeting called for that purpose. Such confirmation must take place within six months after appointment. People appointed under this section must still be qualified to be a director.

Section 1 SHoWLE Bylaws

The officers of the group are selected by the Board from the members of the Board. Other duties of the Board is explained in the SHoWLE Bylaws. We do ask people to serve two year terms but after each year you do have the option to rotate off the Board if you wish to do so.

The Board is the main body charged in the day to day operation of the group and if you would like to influence the direction or programing of the group, joining the board is one way to do it.
