The Secular Humanists of Western Lake Erie is a demoÂcÂraÂtÂic memÂber run group based on a set of Bylaws. Those bylaws, and the state of Ohio, require we have a Board of Directors to hanÂdle the day-to-day operÂaÂtion of the group. This includes setÂting polÂiÂcy, proÂgramÂing for meetÂings and events, and mainÂtainÂing the finanÂcial health of the group.
There is no preÂviÂous expeÂriÂence needÂed to serve on the Board. The only requireÂment is you have to be a votÂing memÂber — that is you have paid dues. We meet for no more than hour every othÂer month or more often if needÂed, usuÂalÂly online using Zoom. And we do ask you to attend at least one meetÂing or event each month and make a donaÂtion or two if you can. (Donation of time or in-kind goods counts).
A Board of Directors shall conÂduct the busiÂness of the group between busiÂness meetÂings. The Board of Directors shall conÂsist of up to sevÂen memÂbers who must be SHoWLE votÂing memÂbers in good standÂing. The Board of Directors shall elect the offiÂcers of SHoWLE from among the Board.
The Board of Directors shall serve stagÂgered two-year terms where four seats are up for elecÂtion one year and three seats are up for elecÂtion the next year.
In casÂes where there are less than three board memÂbers, the President shall appoint at least one and no more than the numÂber needÂed to have the state minÂiÂmum three board memÂbers total. The appointÂments will be conÂfirmed at a latÂer speÂcial memÂbers meetÂing called for that purÂpose. Such conÂfirÂmaÂtion must take place withÂin six months after appointÂment. People appointÂed under this secÂtion must still be qualÂiÂfied to be a direcÂtor.
Section 1 SHoWLE Bylaws
The offiÂcers of the group are selectÂed by the Board from the memÂbers of the Board. Other duties of the Board is explained in the SHoWLE Bylaws. We do ask peoÂple to serve two year terms but after each year you do have the option to rotate off the Board if you wish to do so.
The Board is the main body charged in the day to day operÂaÂtion of the group and if you would like to influÂence the direcÂtion or proÂgramÂing of the group, joinÂing the board is one way to do it.
Fill out this form to indiÂcate your interÂest to serve on the Board of Directors for SHoWLE. If you have any quesÂtions, feel free to reach out to President Doug.
