The Secular Humanists of Western Lake Erie strongÂly conÂdemns the terÂrorÂist attack that hapÂpened at the Tree of Life Synagogue this past Saturday.
Our conÂdoÂlences go out to the friends and famÂiÂly of the vicÂtims and wish a speedy recovÂery of those injured.
No one should be sinÂgled out, harassed, disÂcrimÂiÂnatÂed against, or subÂjectÂed to any vioÂlence because of their reliÂgious beliefs, lack of reliÂgious beliefs, or politÂiÂcal views.
The murÂders on Saturday are a prime examÂple why our curÂrent politÂiÂcal leadÂers must stop tryÂing to scapeÂgoat a group of peoÂple to score cheap politÂiÂcal points for their base.
When someÂone like our President of the United States sinÂgles out peoÂple he doesÂn’t like with baseÂless accuÂsaÂtions, it gives covÂer for othÂers to actuÂalÂly act against memÂbers of that same group.
The murÂders on Saturday, the shootÂing in Kentucky, and serÂiÂal mail bombÂings in recent days shows the terÂriÂble side of some in this counÂtry. Humanists will conÂtinÂue to work on reducÂing toxÂic tribÂalÂism and angry nationÂalÂism. All of us need to work togethÂer to let those who want to do harm know that they will not be welÂcome and will be resistÂed.
