Come out Sunday afterÂnoon and meet Fish Stark, the Executive Director of the American Humanist Association. He will talk to us about the probÂlem of Christian Nationalism and what we can do to address it in our comÂmuÂniÂty. He will also menÂtion some the plans for the orgaÂniÂzaÂtion and projects they are workÂing on. This will be folÂlowed by some quesÂtions and answers. We will have light refreshÂments.
Fish Stark
Fish Stark is an orgaÂnizÂer, eduÂcaÂtor, social entreÂpreÂneur, and lifeÂlong humanÂist. Fish has spent his career turnÂing big ideas into bold action in serÂvice of belongÂing, flourÂishÂing, and social jusÂtice for all peoÂple.
Prior to joinÂing the AHA as Executive Director, Fish was the Head of Program + Curriculum at Legends, an eduÂcaÂtionÂal techÂnolÂoÂgy startÂup, where he led research and impleÂmenÂtaÂtion teams to creÂate prodÂucts that helped chilÂdren build self-confidence, posÂiÂtive menÂtal health, and critÂiÂcal thinkÂing skills.
Previously, Fish served as the Director of Programs at Peace First, a globÂal nonÂprofÂit that proÂvides trainÂing and fundÂing to youth social jusÂtice activists, where he led a globÂal team of orgaÂnizÂers who empowÂered thouÂsands of youth grantees in 140+ counÂtries to make lastÂing change in their comÂmuÂniÂties, and worked with orgaÂniÂzaÂtions such as the Red Cross and Lady Gaga’s Born This Way Foundation to develÂop youth leadÂerÂship proÂgrams.
Fish’s othÂer proÂfesÂsionÂal expeÂriÂences include manÂagÂing proÂgresÂsive politÂiÂcal camÂpaigns, leadÂing a menÂtorÂship proÂgram in the West Virginia coalÂfields with the American Friends Service Committee, buildÂing a nationÂalÂly recÂogÂnized peer-to-peer bulÂlyÂing preÂvenÂtion proÂgram, and teachÂing stuÂdents from pre-school to high school.
A self-proclaimed develÂopÂmenÂtal psyÂcholÂoÂgy nerd who is pasÂsionÂate about givÂing everyÂone the tools to live lives of meanÂing, serÂvice, and self-determination, Fish holds a Master’s in Education with a conÂcenÂtraÂtion in child develÂopÂment and psyÂcholÂoÂgy from Harvard University, and a Bachelor’s from Yale University with a cerÂtifiÂcate in Education Studies. While at Yale, Fish served as a stuÂdent board memÂber of the Yale Humanist Community and received a Dean’s Prize for his work to build a stronger relaÂtionÂship between Yale and New Haven.
Fish lives in Annapolis, Maryland, where he is President of the Speaker Mike Busch District 30 Democratic Club, is a memÂber of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Annapolis, and serves on sevÂerÂal nonÂprofÂit boards. He moonÂlights as an award-winning stand-up comeÂdiÂan and has perÂformed in 13 states.
