Toledo, February 24, 2022 —
The Secular Humanists of Western Lake Erie are heart broÂken that Russia has unjustÂly invadÂed the Ukraine. We conÂdemn Russia’s actions.
Unjust war is the failÂure of peoÂple to find comÂmon ground and conÂsenÂsus to live peaceÂably. All peoÂple should stand against the use of warÂfare to boost ego or setÂtle old scores.
SHoWLE believes that the soluÂtion to this naked use of warÂfare will only be solved by peoÂple and not through thoughts and prayers. There needs to be large scale sancÂtions like excludÂing Russia from all interÂnaÂtionÂal orgaÂniÂzaÂtions they belong to such as sport fedÂerÂaÂtions.
A counÂtry wantÂiÂng to be a good interÂnaÂtionÂal neighÂbor doesÂn’t start a war for no ratioÂnal reaÂson.
It is disÂapÂpointÂing that the interÂnaÂtionÂal comÂmuÂniÂty didÂn’t act soonÂer to address Russia’s human rights vioÂlaÂtions.
SHoWLE will supÂport groups whose misÂsion is to aid innoÂcent peoÂple caught in the crossÂfire.
Our thoughts go out to the peoÂple of the Ukraine and we hope this human rights vioÂlaÂtion by Russia ends quickÂly and any loss of life is low.
About Secular Humanists of Western Lake Erie
The misÂsion of the Secular Humanists of Western Lake Erie is to proÂvide a supÂportÂive local comÂmuÂniÂty for humanÂists and othÂer nonÂtheÂists, while proÂmotÂing an ethÂiÂcal, reaÂsonÂable, and secÂuÂlar approach to life through eduÂcaÂtion, comÂmuÂniÂty serÂvice, outÂreach, activism, and social events.
We enviÂsion a Northwest Ohio and Southeast Michigan where secÂuÂlar peoÂple are respectÂed and inteÂgratÂed in broadÂer sociÂety, live valÂues of reaÂson and comÂpasÂsion, and enjoy a friendÂly humanÂist comÂmuÂniÂty.
