Our right to privacy is now in danger
Like many in this counยญtry the Secular Humanists of Western Lake Erie were heartยญbroยญken by the conยญtent of the Dobbs deciยญsion of the US Supreme Court when it was leaked in May. It comยญpleteยญly guts a womanโs right to aborยญtion under 1973โs Roe v. Wade deciยญsion.
We knew this was a posยญsiยญbilยญiยญty from the decades long effort by reliยญgious zealots to overยญturn the case and send us back to the time of secret back-alley aborยญtions that led to unnecยญesยญsary deaths.
To be truthยญful, aborยญtions will still hapยญpen, but the aborยญtions will be less safe. Those who are caught in poverยญty will be worse off and women becomยญing pregยญnant due to a rape or incest will have no othยญer options to terยญmiยญnate their pregยญnanยญcy.
The deciยญsion also hints at future attacks on same sex marยญriage, sodomy, and conยญtraยญcepยญtion. Religious zealots want to stomp all of that out and peoยญple like Justice Alito, Thomas, and the othยญer conยญserยญvยญaยญtives on the court are more than hapยญpy to help.
Religious conยญserยญvยญaยญtives believe wearยญing masks and not being allowed to pray in a church durยญing a panยญdemยญic is a severe vioยญlaยญtion of their reliยญgious freeยญdom, yet they donโt think twice in using their reliยญgion to jusยญtiยญfy takยญing funยญdaยญmenยญtal rights from all of us. With this deciยญsion, our right to priยญvaยญcy is in danยญger.
SHoWLE strongยญly conยญdemns the Dobbs deciยญsion. We will nevยญer stop supยญportยญing a womยญanโs right to reproยญducยญtive choice and everyยญoneโs right to priยญvaยญcy.
We also repeat our intenยญtion not to work with ANY group that doesยญnโt supยญport a womยญanโs right to make her own health care choicยญes. We also will refuse to work with groups who donโt supยญport a right to priยญvaยญcy.
We know it is a big ask to boyยญcott Ohio, which is poised to end legal aborยญtion, but if a busiยญness isnโt able to leave or refuse to do busiยญness in states that ban aborยญtion, we at least ask those busiยญnessยญes to strongยญly express their supยญport for a womยญanโs right to choose and offer to help employยญees obtain aborยญtions in states where it will be legal.
Besides conยญtactยญing your electยญed repยญreยญsenยญtaยญtives and supยญportยญing any protests against takยญing the right to choose from women, we also ask that you donate to local aborยญtion groups who help those with less resources to get the care they need.

The vote to overยญturn Roe was 5โ4. Justices Clarence Thomas, Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh, and Amy Coney Barrett joined Alitoโs opinยญion. Chief Justice John Roberts did not join the opinยญion. He agreed with the majorยญiยญty that the Mississippi aborยญtion restricยญtion at issue in the case should be upheld, but in a sepยญaยญrate opinยญion, he argued that the court should not have overยญturned Roe.
The courtโs three libยญerยญals, Justices Stephen Breyer, Sonia Sotomayor, and Elena Kagan, filed a joint disยญsent.
