Our Speaker

As the Organizing Director for the American Humanist Association, Jake Via is dedÂiÂcatÂed to buildÂing and mobiÂlizÂing a strong grassÂroots netÂwork to advance humanÂist valÂues across the counÂtry. With nearÂly two decades of expeÂriÂence in comÂmuÂniÂty engageÂment, proÂgram develÂopÂment, and leadÂerÂship at the YMCA and Playworks, Jake has a deep underÂstandÂing of how to bring peoÂple togethÂer around shared valÂues.
A firm believÂer in the powÂer of conÂnecÂtion, Jake speÂcialÂizes in empowÂerÂing indiÂvidÂuÂals and local groups to take meanÂingÂful action, whether through comÂmuÂniÂty buildÂing, advoÂcaÂcy, or acts of serÂvice. He is curÂrentÂly leadÂing efforts to expand and actiÂvate AHA’s memÂberÂship base, ensurÂing humanÂists have a strong netÂwork and voice in their local comÂmuÂniÂties and on the nationÂal levÂel.
Jake holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Thomas Edison State University. He is pasÂsionÂate about the powÂer of play, believÂing that shared play expeÂriÂences fosÂter empaÂthy, strengthÂen comÂmuÂniÂties, and break down barÂriÂers. Throughout his career, he has chamÂpiÂoned play as a tool for engageÂment, incluÂsion, and perÂsonÂal growth.
Jake lives in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, with his wife, Anabel, and their three dogs. When he’s not workÂing to orgaÂnize humanÂists, you can find him explorÂing new ideas, writÂing, or dreamÂing about sailÂing.

I’d like to hear the meetÂing, but my schedÂule is tight that day. I plan to walk with the Wood Oarty OH Green Party in the Oak Harbor Apple Festival, as they invitÂed us to bring the big earth ball. I think it starts at 2:00, but the YouTube livestream didn’t work last time so I was glad I attendÂed in perÂson. Since the speakÂer is via Zoom, would it be posÂsiÂble to send me a Zoom link if I promise to stay mutÂed?
Thanks.
I still plan to try the livestream but I will send you the zoom link.
